Jim has been working with his counterpart, Eduardo, in Spain on a new project. Jim flew to Madrid to present his ideas to Eduardo and his team in person. During the meeting, Eduardo and his team tried to ask questions to gain more perspective, but Jim insisted on holding off questions until the end of his speech.
How should Jim have handled the interruptions and questions?
Choose a response:
Spanish executives typically prefer to ask questions during a presentation or “flesh out” ideas with a give and take discussion as opposed to remaining silent. Jim should have allowed the questions during his speech.
Since business meetings and presentations in Spain typically are more of a give and take discussion, Jim should have prepared his speech with breaks and frequent opportunities for questions and debate with the team.
